How the Trinity lives as One

We spoke about the presence of both humility and leadership in the unity of the Triune God (Trinity).  Please give 1 verse which speaks to this truth; you may use your notes with that verse to share a small portion of thoughtful and purposed insight about this pre Angelic Family of God. PD

  1. Well i actually have 2 verses. Mark 1:10-11 "And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, 'you are my beloved son, in whom i am well pleased'."
At this instance, all three members of the God head are present. Jesus receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, and then the voice recognition of the father.

    1. The leadership in this verse is quite apparent...but so is the humility: Christ "RECEIVED"....takes humility. The Spirit "DESCENDS"....humility. A father who "RECOGNIZES" a son has humility in his care (some fathers are too proud to show love, appreciation)...This Father has perfect and infinite appreciation. Great verse.

  2. In Luke 1:35, the angel is speaking to Mary. Here he says, "... The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called Son of God."
I think this shows the humility of God, to be born in a natural human way as a baby, and it also shows the unity of the three persons: Father (the Highest in the verse), Son, and Holy Spirit. They all work together as ONE although they work in different ways as different Persons. It's such a beautiful mystery.

    1. Absolutely Sarah, the incarnation is a daunting reality...a window into the depth of God's character...He didn't just do this; He is the kind of Individual that does this. It's not an exception, it's natural for Him to be this humble.

    2. What a precise and loaded verse to support this truth, Sarah! The more I read and meditate on Luke 1:35, the more vivid, incomprehensible, and beautiful that truth becomes. Can you imagine what that moment was like for Mary!

  3. I like the first part of Gen. 1:26 "Then god said, 'let US make man in OUR image, according to OUR likeness'." the each member of the trinity is in prefect understanding and agreement with each other member, working together as one but yet a conversation can happen between the three parts. It is really a fascinating thing to research.

    1. The beauty of unity and diversity in the body of Christ is a testimony of God's infinite character. United as One, the humble Father included the Son in creating man and woman. The Lord is expressed uniquely in each one of us, as we are created in His image. The leadership and humility of the Trinity was also given to us by having dominion over all living things.

  4. John 6:38
"For I came down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me." This verse clearly says this is not a one man team. "Him who sent me" meaning God the Father sent His son.

    1. It's fascinating that the trinity was willing to be apart on our behalf...it says something about the nature of Love.

  5. Hebrews 9:14 speaks of the trinity and shows God's humility in offering his blood

  6. Hebrews 9:14 " How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Speaks of the trinity and shows God's Humility in giving his blood.

    1. That's TREMENDOUS! the bloody GOD(Christ) offers Himself up to GOD(Father) through the intermediary power of the person of GOD(Spirit)....

  7. I like Isaiah 48:16-17. In those verses, it shows again the unity of the 3, and yet how they are separate Persons. It shows His leadership as he "leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go", and His humility that He would "teacheth thee to profit". He is so personal with us mortal beings. It amazes me how God Almighty who is far above anything we could imagine shows His humility in being so personal with us and teaching and leading us.

    2. Wow Sarah... that's a great verse. HIS humility affords US counsel. It says in Ps. 113 that God humbles Himself just to look on His creation....and then He goes so far as to give us counsel; counsel for our profit! He cares that we would be well taught...for OUR benefit. Beautiful

  8. I think it's so cool to tie John1 and Genesis 1 together to see the Trinity in creation, and then just to think about all that it means. They have so much power, but so much unity in what they are accomplishing. beyond that whole section of class though, I think it's crazy the humility that the Trinity takes on in understanding that we will screw up, and still finding us worth creating to love through our weakness. There's a ton more involve there, too.

    1. i think you're right....there's a ton involved with that truth. if God doesn't change, then He always had that kind of humility...it wasn't a result of our finite presence....we didn't activate a new "potential" for God....He was always that humble...He was always "meek and lowly of heart". His humility is not a result of having imperfect people which He has to "deal with", not a reactive impulse in the Godhead...it is the very disposition of the Ancient of Days.

  9. John 8:29 "I do the things that please the Father." Though Jesus was Deity, He always deferred to the
Father's leading Him. It is an example to us to lay down
our "self" and to ask Him for guidance.

    1. This can be seen in Matt 4 also; the temptation of Christ. He is led by the Spirit into the wilderness, He carries out the Father's will, and when Satan tries to use the Scriptures to convince Him, Christ does not even entertain Satan's suggestions, but uses Scripture to refute Satan's attacks against His identity, because He is the incarnate Word.

  10. It is interesting that as we are able to walk humbly with God...all things are possible. What a huge word ALL is.
    Mysterious yet true.

    1. makes me think of little Samuel..."Speak Lord, for your servant heareth". We are able to answer Him in humility because He addresses us...draws us to Himself...and reveilles in our meeting Him. If Samuel had not met God in the night, in humility, than he could never have become what he ended up being (in God's plan)....all things were possible because of that meeting, and where "there was no open vision"....he became the voice of God for the jews, for Saul, David...and he had the vision to SEE who should be king...and followed through.

  11. John 14:26 - But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

This scripture reveals the Father, Son and Holy Spirit working in perfect unison out of love for us. They are all acting as leaders to us because of this love and their unity and humility enables them all to do this. They are all humbly submitted to each other, equally and out of love for us.

  12. I John 5:6- This is He that came by water and by blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth; this verse exemplifies how the Holy Spirit testifies, not of Himself, but the Son.

  13. 1 John 5:7 "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." In this verse the bible pointedly says there are three persons in unity in heaven. The trinity is about a union, there are three, but there is one in unity.

  14. 1 John 4:9- in this was manifested the love of God toward us, because God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. The humility of the Son was that He obeyed the Father and was sent for us. The humility of the Father; He condescends to our level to provide a way for us to live in a new life through His Son.

  15. In John 17:21-26, Jesus is praying for unity of the church through the unity of the Trinity. vs21, "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us:" in vs22, ..."we are one"... vs23, "I in them, and thou in me"... Leadership and humility flow from the Father, to the Son, to us in the Spirit. This perfect love in the trinity is now poured on us through the Triune God!

  16. John 12:49+50 For I have not spoken from my own authority, but the Father himself who sent me has commanded me what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. Thus the things I say, I say just as the Father has told me.”
Jesus was under the authority of the Father. Leadership of the Father and Humility of the Son = Success. The Finished Work and the Redemption of mankind.

  17. Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
This verse mentions all persons of the trinity. God the Father who raised Jesus (Acts 2:24)

  18. I love 1 Cor.12:4-6 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

This can only be a reality when we reflect the same humble attitude that we see in the trinity as the father, son, and holy spirit all have separate functions but operate in perfect unity living under the authority of each others place.

  21. God the father, God the son and God the holy spirit they are one but they work differently.
Act 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost had come, we with one accord praying in one house. The sound coming from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and as if it filled the whole house where they were sitting; then there it appeared to them divided tongues as if fire sat upon each of them. They were all filled with the holy spirit and begun to speak with another tongue to as of what the spirit had given them.

  22. Luke 11:13 contains a wonderful promise that points to the unity and leadership within the trinity: "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him." The Son is encouraging the disciples (and us!) to ask God the Father for the Gift of God the Holy Spirit, who presumably will inspire, enable, and secure all those points of prayer given previously in Luke 11:2-4. I never saw this before - um, um, good!

  23. John 16:12-15
"I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you."

    1. Jesus said that the truth shall set us free; we can only understand what he is saying unto us or telling us when we receive the truth....and he is the truth, the way, and the life. If we do not have the truth, we are blind folded and cannot understand what God is speaking to our heart. When we are in bondage we can only see what is in front of us but cannot grasp the great picture...as all things work together for the good to those who love him, and are called according to his purpose...but in a difficult situation we don't understand how God will redeem that situation. We need to just trust in the Lord, and believe that he has a perfect plan for our lives!

  24. Humility as a topic makes me think of John 17:11, which says "I and the father are one...so keep through thy name those whom thou has given me that they may be one as we are," imagine God's heart who created the world in spite of the fact that he knew exactly his own creation would turn against him. He gave the free will for man to have dignity and the private entity even though he knew he would send his son to die for all men that all would be saved. Amen! He forgave all sins, and seeks oneness with us...that he might love us forever till eternity!

    1. Very good thoughts Beatirx. Free will is an amazing, powerful, dangerous gift. Yet it would also be the free will of Grace that would come and die for our misuse of the gift of freedom! pw

    2. It is humbling for God to even be thinking of us (Ps 8:4-What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?)
let alone come and live with us on the earth for 33 years and die for us so that we could have a relationship with Him. it's really mind-boggling.

  25. Romans 5:5, 6 'And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6  For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.' I think this verses shows the humility of Jesus Christ because he dies for the ungodly. It speaks of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit here and shows there relationship and how they all worked together.

  26. An example to me on humility and leadership would be in John 13. Washing the feet of the disciples, Jesus had a chance for one on one time with each disciple. A wonderful example of investing in others

  27. In Luke 3:21-22, Jesus is being baptized in obedience. This is something we need to do. Not just in action, but in our hearts. Once again, Jesus being an example.

  28. John 1:35-36 (NCV)
    35) The next day John was there again with two of his followers.
36 When he saw Jesus walking by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God! “ John explained that his baptism was in water, but that the Messiah would come and baptize with a spiritual baptism.
Again, John made it clear that he was not establishing a new religion or seeking to exalt himself. He was pointing people to the Savior, the Son of God (John 1:34). We shall learn later that it was through baptism that Jesus Christ would be presented to the people of Israel. Being follower of Christ we other see us, the non-believers and believers should see an even feel the Holy Spirit, of Christ, God on us if we are true representatives of God there should be a change in our lives, we should make a difference.
